A fantastic story on our website today about a mother of two who worked against the clock to secure £47,000 from Community Spaces.

Tracy Evans tells us how she juggled family life, application writing and event organising to secure the much needed funding for a new playground to be built in her busy community at St Margarets at Cliffe.

A short thank you video from Friends of Evington Park, Leicester, who secured just over £25k to create an outdoor gym in their local park.

The group have worked really well with Leicester City Council to create a outdoor gym in the park – we hope the site continues to be a popular local resource.

Thank you to Facilitator, Tamzin Smith, for the video. More videos from Community Spaces funded projects can be found on our You Tube Channel, see: www.youtube.com/communityspaces

Friends Of Evington Park and Village Green and Leicester City Council Parks and Green Space Services have successfully secured over £25,000 from Community Spaces to install an Outdoor Exercise Area in Evington Park. The project is due to be launched later this month by Leciester’s own ‘Ironman’ – Manjit Singh.

The project incorporates 10 pieces of equipment, which will provide a full body workout, new seating and a landscaped picnic area. This will provide free access to Exercise equipment for all members of the Community to enjoy in the tranquil setting of Evington Park. Members of the local Community have been involved with planting the new trees and shrubs.

Local Ward Councillors have supported the project and Michael Johnson said “In this day and age many people are in need of exercise, this is a fantastic opportunity and once again Evington leads the way”.

The project will opened on 26 October 2009 by Leicester’s Ironman & Guinness Book of World Records holder, Manjit ‘Ironman’ Singh. http://www.manjitironman.com/ironman2.htm
