Steering Cox and Hound

uk mapHere’s your chance to guide the future of British broadcasting… or at least one small part of it!

Radio One DJ Sarah Cox and comedian Rufus Hound are about to embark on a camper van tour of the UK, showcasing National Lottery-funded projects and highlighting the difference they make to their surrounding communities.

There’s a choice of two projects in each area, with Cox and Hound only visiting the project that gets the most votes. At each location they will take part in a ‘challenge’ to be featured on the National Lottery draw show on BBC1 on Saturday November 19.

Two projects that have received Community Spaces grants are in contention – Rosliston Forestry Centre in Derbyshire representing the Midlands, and Sheffield Manor Lodge in South Yorkshire representing the North.

To vote, go the Cox and Hound Facebook page then follow the instructions on screen.

Play time!

play england logoAnyone looking for a way to entertain the kids during half-term might be interested in a new interactive map from Play England, which pinpoints places to play outside – and gives you the chance to rate them.
The map, launched by Savlon and Play England, in conjunction with Natural England, features the best places for children to engage with nature, including playgrounds and green spaces across England.

As well as finding great places to play outside, families can nominate their own natural places to play. Once they’ve played there, they can go back and rate the areas, post comments and upload photos to show why they are good places to play – or why they need improving.
So, if you know a great natural space to play, don’t keep it to yourself.

And if you are still stuck for ideas, don’t forget the Community Spaces map of our completed projects and the Groundwork UK Urban Oasis map. There really is no excuse…

Paignton play boost

Posted on 27th July 2011 by

Good news from Devon where the Paignton Town Community Partnership is moving full steam ahead with plans for an ambitious play park.

The last planning hurdles were cleared this week and work on the Paignton Geoplay Park is due to start in September.

The playpark will be themed on the geological heritage of the town, part of the English Riviera Geopark. It has been made possible through a £447,000 Community Spaces Flagship grant and £53,000 from other local funders.

There’s now a World Class Playpark for Paignton Green Facebook page promoting the project.

As one Facebook comment says: “A triumph for so many people – the community partnership, the contractor, the council officers, the project management, the residents and traders of Paignton and families from across the world who will now have a free place to play and enjoy our lovely English Riviera. Let’s get it built!”
