The Launch, which I attended, set the seal on this highly innovative Flagship Project, with an Iconic 66ft(20 metre)Celtic Cornish Cross,( higher than the Angel of the North)
sited at the Gateway to Cornwall at Saltash, & visible for miles around. It is illuminated at night. The two acre woodland & orchard, which was derelict for 40 years has been brought back into full use for the community. The Project has been a true Partnership with Saltash Waterfront Residents Association, Saltash Town Council
& Cornwall Council, with £520,000 Funding
from Community Spaces. The Chair of The Grants Panel Peter Shirley & Director of Open Grants -Programme Director Wendy Jenkins attended the launch. The Group lead by Joe Ellison were delighted with the Launch. As the Facilitator it has been a real privilege to work on this project in its development, to a succcessful bid & see it through to a completed Flagship project.

The lifting of the Celtic Cross overnight on 20/21 April is the culmination of a great team effort by Saltash Waterfront Residents Association, in conjunction with
Community Spaces & Cornwall Council, as Accountable Body, with support from Saltash Town Council & other funders. As the Facilitator on this Flagship Project
it is great to see the Cross come to fruition, from the initial meeting with the Group in May 2009, in which I identified with the Group the use of the Cross for the Project , which at that time was a model in Saltash Town Hall. The delivery of this was a team effort, as identified in the Report above.

So glad you are promoting this, i live by the River Cole and my community group are always looking for initiatives to help with flood damage and properties vulnerable to break-ins from the open space by the river so we are going to see if we can plant some nice sturdy plants that will help protect properties from prying eyes and flood prevention to boot. Thanks

I had the pleasure of being the project's facilitator. They are a brilliant group for youth participation and also involved a core of ‘serious skaters’ as you saw interviewed, which ensured standards were monitored throughout planning and installation. There was a real effort to provide something of quality and they’ve certainly pulled it off haven’t they? Lovely to see the profs skating amongst the smaller kids too. Well done The Deans Youth Project!

I hope the lovely weather holds out for everyone. I'm going to the Tees Heritage Park launch on the 20th and looking forward to catching up with the group after first meeting them a couple of years ago.
