Photos just in from the Friends of Great Chesterford Recreation Ground in Essex, whose multi-use games area (MUGA to those who like their jargon) launched at the weekend.
Group chair Sorrel Gordon-Foxwell (right) welcomed district councilor Julie Redfern, who cut the ribbon to launch the project, which was funded through a £42,608 Community Spaces grant.
Sorrel says: “We are all delighted with our new games area and we hope the residents of Great and Little Chesterford will enjoy these new courts for many years to come.”
A busy month of project launches coming up… If there’s one in your area why not get along?
And don’t forget to let us know how your launch went… we love seeing your photographs, videos and reports.
Share the joy!

Work in progress… it’s all taking shape at the Ware Skate Park Scheme in Bedfordshire.
WASPS chair Jan Wing says: “The shape and outline of the ramps is now becoming clear and very soon the surfaces will be in place. Local users are very excited by the park and eagerly awaiting the chance to ride the new park.”
The photo shows the frames for the ramps with the novice run to the right.
Plans are now under way for the launch on October 16, with competitions, barbeque, music, and some VIP visitors including local BMX racer Dan Blanche.
Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson pitches in at Boughton Park in Kent
Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson rolled up his sleeves and got stuck in to get work underway at the Boughton Park project in Boughton under Blean, Kent.
The Park’s Supporters Group secured just under £50k to create a new and inspiring activity area for all ages.
Friday was an exicting day for Community Spaces – as one of our projects was given a royal seal of approval. The Ventnor Botanic Gardens Westgate project on the Isle of Wight was officially opened by The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. Above is a picture of Prince Charles meeting with Groundwork UK’s Director of Open Grants, Wendy Jenkins and the Ventnor Botanic Gardens Friends Society.
Were you part of the Royal visit? If you met the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall at the gardens then we’d love to hear your story. We’d also like to know what you think of the new Westgate Project – so please leave us a reply below.
Today was a rare opportunity for Community Spaces facilitators to meet up and find out more about each other and the projects they are helping through the programme.
Once through the first stage of application, community groups applying for funding are helped through the rest of the process by one of these friendly facilitators.
Rebecca Luff and Rachel Summerscales are two of the facilitators and they talked about the very first projects to come to fruition. For Rebecca it was last week’s opening of a new playground in Rogate and Rachel claimed the first ever succesful Community Spaces at Fern Gore near Accrington which helped restore several wildlife lodges (or ponds) despite the windy and rainy launch!

The Rogate Appeal for a Playground group (RAP) based in Chichester, Hampshire, wrapped up there project last week with a party to celebrate the opening of their brand new play area.
Local officials and children came together to officially open the new park, which recieved just under £50,000 from the Community Spaces programme.
The play facility has been built with natural play elements which are complimented with more conventional equipment. Pictures of the new play area and the launch can be found on the Community Spaces Flickr page.
