- Cllr. Penny officially opens the new gardens
Local People came together to celebrate the opening of a new Community Spaces project in Skerton, Lancaster. The Skerton Community Association secured a grant of just under £25,000 from the programme to create a small garden haven for the local community. Judging by the turn out – looks like this is set to be a real asset for both young and old!
Thanks to Community Spaces Facilitator, Rachel Summerscales, for sharing the pictures with us. To see more project pictures visit: www.flickr.com/communityspaces.
If you have pictures of your launch events, or even of how your project is progressing, then please share them with us by joining the Community Spaces Fund Flickr Group.

This was such a lovely event, helped by the rain holding off and the sun coming out! The group netted a new committee member and also 4 new volunteers for the Barefoot Gardening group that will look afer the new community garden. Great result and shows how a launch event can have extra benefits. By the way, the heavens opened just after the event finished and Lancashire was flooded.
What a great day and a real treat to be sat in our community garden in the hot sunshine eating strawberries and cream with a wonderful group of Skerton residents. Thanks to Rachel for coming along to share the day and thanks to Community Spaces we will be eating our home grown strawberries next year!!
