Let Us Know When You’re Launching!

Launchkit3Groups participating in the Community Spaces programme are required to give Groundwork UK at least 4 weeks notice, prior to the project launch date. This gives us time to prepare the support you need to publicise your project and acknowledge your grant.

We’ve got banners that we can lend you, and a launch kit to give you.

The launch kit contains a plaque (8″x6″), a project comlpetion certificate, balloons and lots of other goodies for you to use. Please contact your Grants Officer or email press@community-spaces.org.uk  to confirm your launch date. Thanks!

MANJIT ‘IRONMAN’ SINGH USES HIS STRENGTH TO OPEN EVINGTON PARK’S NEW OUTDOOR EXERCISE EQUIPMENT PROJECT

Friends Of Evington Park and Village Green and Leicester City Council Parks and Green Space Services have successfully secured £32,000 to install an Outdoor Exercise Area on Evington Park. The project will be officially opened on 26th October 2009 at 10.00am by Leicester’s Ironman & Guinness Book of World Records holder: Manjit ‘Ironman’ Singh.

The project incorporates 10 pieces of equipment, which will provide a full body workout, new seating and a landscaped picnic area. This will provide free access to Exercise equipment for all members of the Community to enjoy in the tranquil setting of Evington Park. Members of the local Community have been involved with planting the new trees and shrubs within the landscaped area.

Following the success of a Monday morning Fitness Group, it was decided to improve the exercise provisions on the Park and the Friends of Evington Park and Village Green approached Community Spaces for help with the funding.

Jane Ushwell – Senior Parks Officer, project leader and Fitness Instructor: “ We are all really excited about the project, the equipment is safe and easy to use and of course free, anyone can improve their health by coming along to the Park and using the equipment, help will be available through and leaflets and organised sessions.

“What a great setting around you to exercise, it’s an all round feel good package. This equipment can be accessed by 1000’s of people within the Community and many of these people could feel intimidated by joining a local gym so it gives them the opportunity to exercise.”

Local Ward Councillors have supported the project and Michael Johnson said “In this day age many people are in need of exercise, this is a fantastic opportunity and once again Evington leads the way.”

The Outdoor Exercise Project has been funded through the Community Spaces programme. The Community Spaces grants programme is being managed by Groundwork UK as an Award Partner to the Big Lottery Fund. Community Spaces is part of the Big Lottery Fund’s Changing Spaces initiative.
